Rainbow Springs Area Real Estate

The Upper Nantahala River begins in the Standing Indian section of the forest and flows through the Rainbow Springs area into Lake Nantahala.  The Lower Nantahala River is an 8 mile stretch of beautiful majestic scenery and a perfect summer getaway. Since there is a lot to do on the river thousands of people each year visit to raft, fish and enjoy the outdoors. The average water temperature is in the mid 50’s which the locals always tell the visitors its not cold its “refreshing!” The river is known for its rafting and kayaking qualities. It has class 2 and 3 rapids and is perfect for the beginner to experienced rafter. Although it is regularly stocked by North Carolina Hatchery Supported regulations, it is home to one on North Carolina’s healthiest populations of wild, stream-born Brook Trout. The river also has self-sustaining rainbow and brown trout with the current state record brown trout, weighing in at 24lbs 10 oz and was caught on the river in 1998, with specimens of 10lbs or greater are fairly common! The Nantahala River is home to the Nantahala Outdoor Center or the NOC as often referred too. The NOC provide guided white-water trips as well as Ziplines, Hiking, Camping and restaurants. The New York Times places NOC very highly as high quality adventure destination.

Rainnbow Springs area  is specifically located on the Nantahala River just above Lake Nantahala and offers a very unique property ownership situation.  Extremely private, surrounded by NFS land, abundant wildlife and fishing.   It’s a special area and nothing else like it.   IF you are looking for extremely good trout fishing on protected waters or getaway with great privacy, then you have found it!   On any  typical weekend, you, your family and children can roam around without any boundaries the entire time up there without interruptions.  So much to do in Rainbow Springs area : Play in river , make dams, pan for stones and fill up bottles with garnets, hike, mountain bike, inner tube or paddle, catch critters and  fish.  This area of the river has amazing fishing…browns, rainbows and  SALMON.  Zero fishing pressure!  You see, the entire 3 mile stretch of the road is behind a locked gate and only someone that owns land should ever be on the road ….practically no one comes up or down the road.  Extremely private.  Also, legally, only property owners (and their guests if with them) are allowed to fish the river and result is a safe, quiet and very private property ownership area.
